Sport Club Chronicles
February has been a busy month for many of the clubs, as they are squeezing in competition before they leave for Spring Break.
The Bowling Club hit a huge milestone for the program, as two weekends ago they earned their first tournament victory of the year at the West Chester CC Tournament. Even better, this victory will serve as a historic win, as it is the first tournament victory for the program.
Last weekend, the Fencing Club traveled to the University of Maryland at College Park to compete in the BWCFC Spring Meet. They competed against a number of schools, including, St. Mary's College, James Madison University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, the United States Naval Academy, and St. John's College of Annapolis. TUFC went 3-3 in the tournament with victories against St. Mary's College, Georgetown University, and St. John's College of Annapolis. The team placed 6th out of 13 teams overall, with the foil squad placing 4th, epee placing 9th, and sabre placing 6th. Additionally, the following members earned Top 8 seedings for the upcoming individual championships - Allison Pierok, Kathryn Durkin, Christy Hernandez, Aiste Cechaviciute, Dominique DeSata and Sarah Looney.
The Indoor Climbing Club traveled to Drexel University last weekend, and had a successful weekend with two members placing in the top three. Joe DeLuca earned 1st placed in the Men's Beginner division, and Sophia Palitz earned 3rd place in the Women's Intermediate division.
Continuing the Sport Clubs' successful trend was the Men's Lacrosse Club. After coming off a National Championship season and moving up a division, the team was hungry to prove that they belonged. Their first match of the season was against conference rival, Princeton University. The Owls defeated the Tigers with a score of 12-4. Goals came in bunches and many of the Owls found themselves on the scoresheet. Goals were scored by Haines (3), Flynn (2), Keiss, Karten, Taylor, Claudio, Malloy, Bevenour, and Kajmo.
The Women's Rugby Club took a short trip west to the University of Pennsylvania last weekend for a match in which they came out on top. The Owls were on their game, as many of them were involved in the scoring. Tries were scored by Aisha Abu Marzouq (2), Kali Taylor (2), Victoria Rasp, Natalie Hinostroza, Emily Cattafesta, Ariel Blanding, and Olivia Rasp. The Lady of the Match honors were given to Aisha Abu Marzouq for her toughness in the scrums and her leadership on the field.
Women's Ultimate Club was also in action last weekend. They competed in the Jersey Devil Indoor Tournament, during which they played four games. They played SUNY-Albany, Haverford College, West Chester University, and Skidmore College. The Owls earned victories against SUNY-Albany and Skidmore College and played well given that this was their first tournament together.
